Dandelions by G-Avoyan Dandelions by G-Avoyan
oil on panel, about 40x50. 2010-2013
I seldom paint or draw flowers but few years back i just got inspired by those small yellow suns everywhere around so i decided to paint them. But after underpainting was done i somehow swithed to other stuff, so those dandelions were left waiting for better times. But lately i found them again and finished in much more expressive manner.

:star: This work is in the collection of Galerie Idea, Prague :star:

You my dear, are one fabulous artist.  But then, I suspect you know that.  If you don't, you SHOULD.  :)

I can see Van Gough influence as pointed out earlier. Good work on this with the oils.

May I ask a silly question... what is underpainting???

I love this painting so much, the texture is just perfect, and although the theme is one that has been already done a thousand times, yours is truly outstanding :D

Its not silly, its simply a technical question! :) The painting may consist of several layers, so underpainting is usually the first layer. It may be monochrome and usualy is done with lighter paints - more liquid and less saturated. Its major purpose is  to establish volumes and colors, though, i repeat, many underpaintings are being done monochrome.

Thank you for your words about this painting, happy to know that you like it!

Ahhhh so you make a layer to give a general feel to the painting and then paint over it... I want to try that soon.

Thank you so much for taking your time to explain it to me!!

Have a nice day!
